Late Picasso

This is the first major presentation of Pablo Picasso at Moderna Museet in more than thirty years with works from 1963 until his death in 1973. ”Picasso’s late works are less concerned with resolution and more with urgency. They are marked by a self-aware theatricality, an embrace of fiction, and a refusal to be polished or conclusive”.

Malmsten Hellberg has contributed with graphic design and sign production for the presentation – the vision of curator Jo Widoff, executed by exhibition manager Olle Eriksson – open galleries with an even light, sisal carpet with brass edges and ropes in front of the paintings, reminiscent of generous, accessible exhibitions in the 70’s. Brief: “boring”, execution: perfection.

Late Picasso is organised between PoMo, Trondheim; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg; and Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso.
